  2. Dona Laura and Don Gonzalo were once lovers. Laura’s parents arranged her marriage with a merchant. Gonzalo fought a duel with him and fled to Seville and Madrid. Years later they met in a park in Madrid. Both recognized each other but hid their identities and narrated imaginary stories while remembering their past.

  3. Tammanna and Basavaiah were rivals. Tammanna owned 1000 acres and Basavaiah 800 acres. Basavaiah grabbed 200 acres. Tammanna composed ballads mocking him. The songs became popular and Basavaiah felt humiliated. Tammanna later pretended to die. Basavaiah lost his purpose and died soon after.

  4. Borges says books extend human imagination and memory. Telephone extends voice, telescope and microscope extend sight, sword and plough extend arms. Books preserve the memory of centuries. Without books, history and human memory would disappear.
